Round 1 The Bishops beat St. George and the Rooks went down to Wests, so after the first games, the Bishops shared the lead with Canterbury and North Sydney Brown Bears with 2.5 points each. The Rooks weren’t far away on 1.5

Round 2 In their local derby the Rooks beat the Bishops 2.5 – 1.5 and Wests drew with Wollongong. Leading scores were Wests 4.5 followed by the Bishops, Rooks and Manly all half a point behind in second place.

Round 3 Manly wanted to take their turn up front for a while and after scoring 3.5 against Mount Pritchard they led the field on 7.5 St. George were second on 7 and the Brown Bears took third on 5.5. The Rooks and Bishops hibernated in this round (they both had a bye) and were left on their Round 2 total of 4 points each.

Ken Macgillivray

Round 4 This was a real thriller. The St. George Dragons put out Manly’s fire with a 3-1 victory. Those two teams now shared the lead on 8.5. Mount Pritchard (3.5 against the Bishops) and the Brown Bears (2-2 with the Rooks) were close behind on 7.5. So were Wests, who beat Canterbury 3-1. The Rooks now had 6 points and the Bishops 4.5.

Round 5 Gaps were starting to appear in the table. St. George went hunting Bear in this round and beat North Sydney Grizzlies 3-1. That gave them the lead on 11.5, just ahead of Manly 11, and the Brown Bears on 9. The Rooks managed 1.5 against Canterbury and moved up to join Wests on 7.5 while the Bishops had their second bye and remained on 4.5.
Scores: St. George 11.5, Manly 11, Brown Bears 9, Mt. Pritchard 8.5, Grizzlies 8, Rooks, Canterbury, Wests 7.5, Bishops (with the bye) 4.5, Wollongong 3.

Round 6 The top half of the field tended to play the bottom half in this round and the scores reflected it. St. George had a 4-0 whitewash against Wollongong, The Grizzlies, and Manly all scored 3 points, Brown Bears 2.5, Rooty Hill Bishops 1.5, Canterbury and Wests 1. Mt. Pritchard and the Rooks had the bye.
Scores: St. George 15.5, Manly 14, Brown Bears 12, Grizzlies 11, Mt. Pritchard, Canterbury, Wests 8.5, Rooks 7.5, Bishops 6, Wollongong 5.

Round 7 It was different in this round. From the tail, Wollongong battered second-placed Manly 3-1. The Rooks held Mt. Pritchard 2-2, and the Bishops drew with the Grizzlies, also 2-2.
Scores: St. George 18, Manly 15, Grizzlies 13, Brown Bears 12, Mt. Pritchard 10.5, Canterbury 10, Rooks 9.5, Wests 8.5, Bishops and Wollongong 8.

Bill Herreros

Round 8 Even with a bye in this round St. George held their lead. (Manly had the other bye.) The Bishops blasted through Wests 4-0 to move up to mid-field. The Rooks went down 3-1 to the Grizzlies. The Brown Bears won 3.5-.5 against Mt. Pritchard, and the Wollongong/Canterbury game was tied 2-2.

Round 9 Two games brought some changes to the top half. The Bishops crushed Canterbury while Wollongong brutalised the Brown Bears, each winning 3-1. It must have been catching, because the Rooks lost by the same margin at Manly.
Scores: St. George 19.5, Manly and the Grizzlies 18, Brown Bears 16, Bishops 15, Mt. Pritchard 13.5, Wollongong and Canterbury 13, Rooks 11.5, Wests 10.5.

Round 10 The Bishops continued their surge toward the lead by downing contenders Manly 3-1 and the Rooks played well to hold Wollongong 2-2. The Brown Bears took 2.5 points away from front runners St. George, and Mt. Pritchard drew with Wests, 2-2.
Scores: St.George 21, Manly 19, Brown Bears 18.5, Bishops and Grizzlies 18, Mt. Pritchard 15.5, Wollongong 15, Rooks 13.5, Canterbury 13 and Wests 12.5.

Round 11 The Bishops lost to Wollongong 2.5-1.5 but it was enough for them to take third place, just half a point behind 2nd placed Brown Bears. Congratulations to all. The Rooks went down 3-1 to champions, St. Wests had the wooden spoon after round 10 but used it to beat the Brown Bears around the head, winning 2.5-1.5 and Mount Pritchard beat the Grizzlies 3-1. Although St. George won with four points to spare, the closeness of the competition can be seen by the fact that there were only 7 points separating 2nd and 10th. Congratulations to both Rooty Hill teams. Well done. Final
