Round 1 Mostly the top half of the field beat the bottom half but there were a few upsets. Minh Do made Stephen Cassettari work hard for his win, Juan Congdon beat Robert Ambalong and Peter Watts committed regicide on my queen. Unrated Carrie Evans drew with Henry Rara but nobody noticed.

Round 2 It was a bad round if your name was Cassettari. Perhaps inspired by Minh’s great first-round game, Levi Descallar beat Stephen and Norie Tiqui beat Peter. It wasn’t a good round for half the people named Evans either because Carrie committed patricide on me. Paul Laurence (1864) drew with Juan Congdon (1285) who was also having a good tournament. Leaders: Charles Zworestine, Leonardo Tenorio, Mark Simpkin, Levi Descallar and Norie Tiqui all on 2; Tony Bouchaaya, Paul Laurance, Rick Carballo, Juan Congdon and Carrie Evans 1.5.

Leonardo Tenorio took the outright lead with a win over Mark Simpkin, Tony Bouchaaya moved into second after Carrie Evans sacrificed a knight but overlooked the obvious rebuttal, Stephen Cassettari beat Ken MacGillivray, Rick Carballo beat Juan Congdon, Paul Laurence beat Levi Descallar, and Norie Tiqui, continuing his good form, held Charles Zworestine to a draw. Leaders: Leonardo Tenorio 3, Tony Bouchaaya, Charles Zworestine Rick Carballo, Paul Laurence and Norie Tiqui 2.5
Round 4 Tony Bouchaaya beat Leonardo Tenorio to share the lead with Charles Zworestine who won against Rick Carballo. Closing quickly was Stephen Cassettari who won against Rolando Gonzales. Peter Cassettari beat Vic Kolodziejski, Levi Descallar stopped Norie Tiqui’s good run, and Marcus Dabb had made up ground with a win over Minh Do. Carrie Evans, the Toongabbie Tornado, blew away Frank Kresinger. She was still well back on 2.5 but didn’t slow down all night. Leaders: Tony Bouchaaya and Charles Zworestine 3.5, Stephen Cassettari, Leonardo Tenorio, Peter Cassettari, Levi Descallar and Marcus Dabb 3.

Rick Carballo defeated the very consistent Norie Tiqui and Minh Do finished as strongly as he started with a good win over Levi Descallar.
