Checkmate
Checkmating your opponent's king is the ultimate aim in a chess game. You have to treaten the enemy king with one of your pieces so that it is unable to move and escape capture.
Here you'll find a number of chess diagrams to test yourself and to see how quickly you can find the forcing moves that lead to checkmate. Although it is unlikely that you will find the positions on this page duplicated exactly in your own games, you will soon begin to recognize similar patterns.
You'll find some easily, but others require a little bit more concentration. Try to work out the answers in your head by just studying the diagrams. If you have problems visualizing the line of play, you can always click and move the chess pieces on the board.
By the way, the (blinking) light on the right side of the board indicates whose turn it is to move.
Note: The chess diagrams are dynamically generated using Chessgenie, a Macromedia Flash application written in Actionscript.
