Top Movers in Brisbane

THREE members of the Rooty Hill Chess Club proved to be hot competition at the Australian Championship in Brisbane.

International Master Gary Lane finished just two points from the lead in the championship event, which was won by the new Australian Champion and Grand Master Ian Rogers. Federation Master Lee Jones, also from the Rooty Hill Club, placed 13 in the major supporting event after drawing his last-round game with former NSW champion Phil Viner.

 

The club was also represented in the Australian Junior Championship by Ben Harris, 14. Ben lost to Angela Song, 13, of Gordon, who became the first female Australian Junior Champion.
