CHESS: Bouchaaya is King
The Rooty Hill Open Chess Tournament concluded last week with a strong field of 38 players competing.
Club Champion and former Chess Olympian, Tony Bouchaaya of Doonside, won the tournament for the third time in six years.
Bouchaaya also attracted media attention when he was undefeated in 36 games played simultaneously at Westpoint, Blacktown in March.
He scored eight points from the nine rounds, conceding draws only to World Chess Federation master Brian Jones and the talented Joe Ymalay. Brian Jones shared second place with newcomer Noel Mangrobang and former leading Sydney talent, David Dick who has recently returned to chess.
The chess club meets every Monday night from 7pm. Visitors and new members are welcome. For more information visit the web site at www.rootyhillchess.org or phone David Evans on 4739 2785.
